Work starts on Vietnam’s Dong Hoi Airport T2 and Ca Mau Airport expansion projects

The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) has begun construction on the Dong Hoi Airport Terminal 2 (T2) project in Quang Binh province and the Ca Mau Airport expansion and upgrade project in Ca Mau province. The groundbreaking ceremonies for these two projects were held on 19 April 2025.

The Dong Hoi Airport T2 is being built on a 106,308 sq m site, with a total investment of over VND 1,750 billion, shared ACV. The project includes a passenger terminal featuring two above-ground floors and a mezzanine floor; roadways, internal airport roads and carpark areas; as well as landscaping and greenery covering a total area of 6,549 sq m.

Upon completion, the Dong Hoi Airport T2 can handle up to three million domestic passengers per year. The project also sets out plans for expansion to accommodate up to five million passengers per year as needed (after 2030).

Meanwhile, the Ca Mau Airport expansion and upgrade project not only addresses urgent needs in civil aviation operations but also plays an important role in ensuring national defence and security, promoting socio-economic development, boosting tourism and attracting investment to the Mekong Delta region, according to ACV.

With a total investment of approximately VND 2,400 billion, the Ca Mau Airport expansion is expected to be completed and operational within 18 months. ACV said the airport will serve as a vital air transportation gateway connecting the southernmost region of Vietnam to the country’s economic and political centres.

The Ca Mau Airport project involves building a runway, taxiway and aircraft apron that cater to A320 and A321 aircraft and equivalents; as well as renovation and expansion of the existing passenger terminal to increase its capacity to 500,000 domestic passengers per year, with the potential to expand further to accommodate up to one million passengers per year as needed, along with the construction of supporting facilities.
